Ballard Avenue is known for its quaint charm yet rough-around-the-edges style due to its historical backdrop: an old Swedish fishing settlement. Having worked at Cugini Cafe right after college (2009-2010) before it became Anchorship Coffee Shop, Ballard Ave was like my second home. I love the juxtiposition of different restaurants serving up cuisine world’s apart from eachother–like Bastille (a lovely Parisian elegance) to the sushi restaurant Shiku right across the street from it (why is it so easy to overboard on wasabi?) and then you got the urban hipster meets country dive bar-esque restaurants on the next block.

Restaurants aside, so many great boutiques have sprung up as well as the veterans that have been there for years. Gold Dogs is one such place: It was in Fremont for a few years before it moved to the heart of Ballard in 2015. You walk into this place and you have entered a fashion ranch of western vintage rock n’ roll infused with contemporary class. A universal appeal of spicy and glam: think Mae West meets Christi Brinkley with a little Kate Moss thrown in. Just purusing through all the designs I became entranced by their All-American girl charm mixed with a little badass wild west nostalgia. They carry an amazing men’s collection, too, of course so ladies don’t forget to bring along your significant others! I also don’t have enough to say about the people who work there–Jolene and Anastasia are amazing! They have just as much personality as the clothing they sell and are really passionate about their products. The store owners I have not met yet but they certainly have put a lot of TLC into their store–all the way from buying their products to the curation, interior design and of course the employees they hire to run it. I was lucky enough to flaunt some of my favorites the other day in Ballard (I ended up buying the boots, too–so comfy!). Hope you enjoy ~
