NORMA JEAN BAKER hand-cutout collage. +2,000 square clippings from +150 pages of torn out fashion mags, +15 glue sticks and +40hrs of labor went into this one. Although I have a lot of work to improve on (as this is only my second face collage I have done) I am content  with the results  #whitneylanderson X #marilynmonroe #artcollage #normajean

✖️ PAPER PONY ✖️  hand-cutout collage created from clipouts of several October 2016 @papermagazine issues (thanks to a local Seattle salon who had extras in their reception area!). The brown areas of the horse are made from Travis Scott’s skinwhile his tatts really helped add character, too. The other colors are clippings from the editorials that include fashion fabrics of all types: baroque/renaissance, geometric and floral patterns

“I’ve failed over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” -Michael Jordan 🖤 58×72″ hand-cut collage made from recycled fashion magazines 2017 | installed in downtown Seattle @stylusseattle  #whitneylanderson

I knew I was taking on a huge assignment when I got the crazy idea of creating #23 . Fear almost stopped me from the beginning but then I remembered those famous words and pushed through…this took around 50hrs to do over a period of two weeks. I had to take a lot of mental breaks and just get away from the studio to refresh my concentration. I didn’t realize it until I was about 40 hours in that his face was basically complete but it didn’t capture the essence of him and I was almost done! So, I  went back and studied the photograph more to understand the discrepancies and how I could capture his uniquely stoic look. I made a few changes and just 10minutes later I stood back and I felt like he was almost in the room. I was like “Mike! There you are.”

I think you can relate this to life, sometimes we feel we have come so far with something and are not getting the results we desire. Maybe there are just a few small changes need to be had in order to get you to where you want to be…. your job to discover. #CriticalAwareness X #whitneylanderson #nevernevernevergiveup
