This is my representation of the stoic youth in our culture. Focus on children: they are our future. The negative space around the boys is metaphorical of the light that will lead them down the right path as long they keep their goals in site and fear of God high. It also acts as a gap to show autonomy—rejecting society’s prerogative of default racial stereotypes. The thousands of square-like cutouts that make up the art are created from recycled pop-cultural magazines that capitalize on their impressionable nature, shaping their minds—refining their identity. Possessing Self reliance to make something of yourself and taking personal responsibility for your actions is the new scarcity found today. The next generation will have to possess it to be strong leaders. They are the new US in focus and we must look out for them.
