You are looking at over 1,000 overlapping folded canvas cuts glued on a thick canvas! I was midway through this piece and yearning to get it done as I asked myself, “WHY did you start this insane project again, Whitney?”.lol Great question. Just experimenting, really….and I am so proud to have finished it! Probably my one and only piece like this I will have in my portfolio! So, if you want a “one off” one-of a kind #whitneylanderson style artwork, THIS would be the one to jump on! What makes this piece so unique is how I tease the concept of 2D and 3D by bringing them together on canvas! 🙌🏽 This quasi 2D/3D piece is inspired by chunky fabric folds hand painted using my acrylic and oils and meticulously placed to create sumptuous lips with a dual effect of abstract realism. It is also inspired by my Pixilated Style collection which you can view on my website under “Paintings.” // Specs: “Folded Lips” painted and sculpted cut canvas squares glued on canvas, 72x48” $11,000 // DM me for buying inquiries or to make an offer 🟥🟧🟨⬜️🟫
“BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN (Part 2)” 6x6’ painting on cut fabric squares //// I walked into @denverdesigndistrict last month and they bestowed on me 4 boxes of recycled fabric samples that I thought I would experiment with! It’s part of my pixilated collection but my limited color palette (and tattered edges of fabric) offset the clean realism I was going for as it turned into a more gruff abstract portrait—it’s a dual effect and that’s kinda cool! This project was taxing but exciting (especially when I finally finished it lol). Interested in buying this one-off over-size piece?
